Costa Rica: Nayara Springs, Arenal

Adults Only, in the Middle of the Rainforest

Nayara Springs is built on a single very good idea: give every villa its own hot spring. All 35 of them sit deep in the rainforest canopy inside Arenal Volcano National Park, and each one has an oversized plunge pool fed by mineral water running directly from the base of the volcano. There is no walking to a communal thermal pool and no queuing for a slot. You wake up, step outside, and the volcano's water is already waiting at the edge of your terrace, screened by tropical planting so thoroughly that the privacy feels almost implausible.

The villas run 1,500 square feet, built from indigenous hardwood and local stone, with four-poster beds, carved furniture, dual rain showers, and a wooden terrace holding a daybed and hammocks over a private garden. The rest of the property is scaled to match: an open-air spa where treatments happen in individual pavilions using volcanic mud and clay made from organic cocoa, a yoga pavilion running sunrise classes, a lap pool, and a piano bar. Dinner at Amor Loco tends to run late with live music, while Mis Amores does Mediterranean plates and flame-grilled fare alfresco with the volcano in view. The resort is adults-only throughout, which is much of the point.
