Ninety nine percent of Guana Island remains exactly as nature left it, and that restraint is the entire point. Since 1934 one family has looked after these 850 acres of the British Virgin Islands, allowing only a small ridge line of whitewashed cottages and villas to be built, and leaving the rest to hillside trails, seven private beaches, and a landscape that feels closer to a nature reserve than a resort. There is no marina buzz here, no crowd to compete with for a stretch of sand. Guests simply choose a beach and have it to themselves.
Days unfold at an unhurried pace built around the island's own rhythms. A five acre organic orchard supplies much of the kitchen's produce, so meals change with what is ripe that week, from fresh papaya at breakfast to the property's well known banana fritters at dinner. Afternoons might mean paddleboarding off a quiet cove, hiking through hills studded with rare native plants, or a treatment at the open air Hibiscus Spa. Guana Island has also spent decades on genuine conservation work, from reintroducing the Caribbean's roseate flamingo to nursing the island's Stout Iguana population back from near extinction, giving the whole experience a rare sense of purpose.
