St-Barth: Eden Rock
A Storied Rock, Reborn
Eden Rock has a history unlike anywhere else on St. Barth, built directly onto the rocky promontory that gives it its name. Rémy de Haenen purchased the outcrop in 1950 and built the hotel from scratch, betting on an island that hadn't yet become the destination it is today. The Matthews family took over in 1995, restoring the original buildings and adding new ones while keeping de Haenen's eccentric, life-loving spirit intact.
In 2014 the Matthews family brought in Oetker Hotels to manage the property, and after Hurricane Irma forced a two-year rebuild, Eden Rock reopened in 2019 to major fanfare. What's emerged is a hotel that honors its founder's original vision while operating at a genuinely modern level, still perched on that same iconic rock, still built around the same sense of occasion.
