A Piccadilly Address That Has Defined London Glamour Since 1906
Some hotels chase trends. The Ritz London simply keeps being the standard everyone else is measured against. Set behind a colonnaded facade on Piccadilly, facing the green sweep of Green Park, the hotel has hosted royals, statesmen and film stars since César Ritz opened its doors in 1906, and it still moves through its days with the same unhurried formality. Inside, Louis XVI details carry the whole property: gilt mirrors, mauve marble fireplaces, sparkling chandeliers and a color palette lifted straight from the original 1906 scheme. It is grand without feeling like a museum, largely because the service still runs on a genuinely personal scale.
That grandeur extends well past the guest rooms. The Ritz Restaurant, a soaring, glass roofed dining room under Executive Chef John Williams MBE, recently earned its second Michelin star and was named Restaurant of the Year at the National Restaurant Awards. Palm Court remains the most famous room in London for afternoon tea, still served under gilt bronze mirrors five times a day. The art deco Rivoli Bar pours a serious vintage cocktail list, The Secret Garden opens for al fresco dining and drinks in warmer months, and a dedicated Cigar Shop rounds out the evening. A major expansion is also underway on site, set to add a second restaurant, a second bar, and the hotel's first spa and pool, alongside additional guest rooms, while the historic interiors themselves stay untouched.
