The Connaught has stood on Carlos Place since 1815, and it has never been the loudest hotel in London. That is precisely its appeal. The rooms and suites were reworked by Guy Oliver with David Collins Studio on the 34 suites, each individually done, from the Terrace Suite looking over the Mayfair rooftops to the Sutherland Suite with its grand piano. Downstairs, Hélène Darroze holds three Michelin stars for cooking rooted in southwest France, and the Connaught Bar has spent years at or near the top of the World's 50 Best Bars list, largely on the strength of a martini mixed at your table from a trolley. The Aman Spa occupies the lower floor with a black granite pool and a grotto-like calm that is startling given the postcode. The location does the rest: Bond Street, Berkeley Square, and Hyde Park all within a short walk.
